Eric
West
Eric West is a guitarist, publisher, author and composer. He has performed with many musicians including classical ensembles, folk groups, and as a member of the musical duo Heather and Eric.
Eric performs primarily on solo guitar, playing a variety of original compositions, traditional arrangements, and classical pieces. He also occasionally sings his original songs in smaller venues (school classrooms and libraries) and at folk festivals. Eric performs at schools, folk festivals, art galleries and libraries. He is also available to play at special events such as weddings.
He has composed for radio, television and stage, including the stage plays Random Passage and Carolan - Last of the Irish Bards. His publications include the guitar method book Creative Guitar, five volumes of folk song arrangements and the children's’ book/CD Wind Over Dark Tickle, written in collaboration with Heather Walter.
In the summer of 1999 Eric was Musician in Residence for Gros Morne National Park. The following year he collaborated with local musician Shirley Montague and photographer Michael Burzynski on Gros Morne - A Musical Journey, a CD-ROM featuring music, songs and images inspired by Gros Morne National Park.
In 2000 Eric started the Vinland Music Camp , dedicated to teaching and preserving the music of Newfoundland and Labrador. He continues to direct and teaches guitar at this annual event.
Eric directs and accompanies the the Potluck Singers – an amateur singing group that performs in hospitals, nursing homes and other venues.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council awarded Eric the 2007 Arts Achievement Award for his contribution to the arts in this province.
Eric resides in Ladle Cove, Notre Dame Bay, Newfoundland.
